Here are our top picks for books you should indulge in this summer. These books were all written by female authors and are placed in no particular order.

Nice is Just a Place in France is a hilarious read that resonates with young  female millennials. This book gives you advice on how to be the best at everything including relationships, careers, and having control in every aspect of your life. If you are of fan of the cult classic, Mean Girls, you will surely love the voice and the message of this book. Although, when reading remember not to follow all the advice given, seeing as though this book is not meant to be taken literally.

I Had a Nice Time and Other Lies – By The Betches

If you have read, Nice is Just a Place in France, reading I Had a Nice Time and Other Lies is a necessity. The second book follows the same casual tone as the first. The book is meant to help you navigate through todays complex relationships. More importantly allow us to laugh at ourselves.

The author dedicates the letters and poems to men who have been part of her personal growth, both in good ways and in bad. The poems and the letters are unique as the people she writes about. The letters are passionate, personal, and pensive. The poems are written in Spanish and English.

Luckiest Girl Alive – By Jessica Knoll

Luckiest Girl Alive will have you hooked after the first page. Knoll lets readers believe that protagonist, Ani FaNelli, has the perfect job, the perfect man, and the perfect life. She appears to have her life in perfect order but as you get further into the novel FaNelli’s deepest hidden secrets surface. If you enjoy thrillers you’ll definitely want to pick this one up.

Not That Kind of Girl – By Lena Dunham

Not That Kind of Girl is a series of personal compositions in which Lena Dunham explains the trial and tribulations of ‘growing up’. She offers what feels like advice on a number of different subjects ranging from being in love to body positivity. Her words are truly admirable and resonate with girls around the globe.

Each story brings something different to the table. July skillfully crafts her words in a way that the reader will have pondering thoughts on life afterward.

A Room of One’s Own – Virginia Woolf

A Room of One’s Own is an extended essay published by Virginia Woolf. The essay was derived from a series of lectures Woolf gave to students at two of Cambridge University’s women’s colleges. In the essay Woolf strategically shines light on relevant issues, such as the oppression of women. The essay is one of empowerment and should not be taken lightly.

Gone Girl – By Gillian Flynn

Ten Days in a Mad-House – By Nellie Bly

Ten Days in a Madhouse is a book written by journalist Nellie Bly. Bly faked insanity in order to get admitted into an insane asylum. The book was initially published as a series of articles for The New York World that the author later compiled into a book. Bly offers a first hand account during her time undercover that exposes all of the injustice at the Women’s Lunatic Asylum.

And Then There Were None – By Agatha Christie

And Then There Were None is an acclaimed novel released in 1939. The thriller takes place on secluded island were ten strangers will meet for the first, and possibly the last time.  Each of the ten characters are intricate and full of secrets. The mysterious novel will keep you guessing till the last page.
